Nearly Wild Camping at The Sweet Escape Retreat
We are excited to have teamed up with nearlywildcamping.org to offer limited camping with a difference at The Sweet Escape Retreat. We are part of a growing network of locations willing to host campers who are looking for a wilder, secluded or quieter camping experience with dark skies. Most offer more than just camping - open fires, local produce, pottery, nature walks, fishing, woodland camping....and more!
We provide no more than five secluded pitches at any time, located in our meadows, woodland and lakeside and include some pitches suitable for small campervans and hammock camping. Some of the pitches have a fire pit (we can provide firewood at £5 per night) or use of the summer house and charcoal barbecue. We are conveniently located for campers touring by bicycle, on foot or by train.
In keeping with the ethos of nearly wild camping, we provide minimal facilities. A composting toilet and shower is currently under construction so in the meantime you will need to bring your own toilet and washing facilities.
The fees for nearly wild camping at The Sweet Escape Retreat are £20 per tent per night and £25 per night for hammocks and small campervans. Contact us at least 24 hours in advance to book your pitch.
"Our stay at Trefnant Bach could not have been more wonderful! Dafydd and Dawn were so welcoming and helpful: showing us around the site to show us the beautiful grounds; telling us about the wildlife and plants we could see, helping us to find a wooden stick to replace our missing tipi pole! Our stay on Anglesey was made even better with their knowledge of the local footpaths and the best spots to visit on the island. We wanted to find walks that were off the beaten track and their recommendations for coastal walks and places to grab a beer and a meal took us to the most gorgeous places. The campsite was private and is surrounded by trees they have recently planted. We were given a grill, which worked very well over the fire pit where we cooked our meals. There was also a wheelbarrow to easily wheel things to and from the pitch and a tap close by to fill up our bottles and fill up a bucket to have a wash. Dawn and Dafydd’s kindness and friendliness made our stay in Anglesey one to remember, and we already know we will be back again to explore some more of the secret gems that they have recommended."
